I joined Andrews Advisory Associates, LLC in July 2020. Christina and I have been close friends for many years, so I was quite familiar with the team and even helped with a few tasks over the years. When Les needed someone to help him around the office, he agreed to hire me as a part-time independent contractor. Meanwhile, Christina found lots more work for me to do, so it was not long before I was hired full-time. I advanced to office manager before scaling my duties back a bit to spend more time on personal responsibilities.
I have an extensive background in the copying and printing industry, along with art and creative writing. My experience in other fields has proved valuable when producing quarterly reports, holiday and birthday cards, and many other mailings. I learned how to edit videos and produced a series of educational YouTube videos for Travis, which you may find on our website. You will find my photos and other artistic work in our company’s printed materials, although my primary role is now as the company’s bookkeeper.
I was born and raised in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. I love to venture out and visit family and friends on the US mainland and in American Samoa. When I am not working, I enjoy connecting with family and friends, being entertained by my three cats ages 1, 2 and 15 years old, getting some sunshine, reading, and writing.
Educational Background:
Bachelor of Social Work, Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii
Get to know our team! Questions & Answers
What got you started with a career in financial services?
After a long career in a different industry, I found myself under-employed during the pandemic. Christina and I have been close friends for our entire adult lives. She approached me for help during a difficult time when the company was going through a major transition. Entering a new field has been quite a challenge; however, I enjoy learning and understand the importance of financial education and planning. I have been inspired by observing how our advisers guide clients through important financial concerns and at times, tough circumstances. I am touched by the care they demonstrate for our clients.
What motivates you to do your best every day?
I believe that everyone matters and needs healthy relationships. I am intentional about self-care, so I can be the best version of myself with others.
What is something you look forward to experiencing in the future?
To serve, in some capacity, our island’s growing population experiencing housing insecurity.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about money?
I wish everyone would start an emergency fund and contribute to a company retirement account, especially if their employer provides a match.
What is a movie you enjoyed?
A movie I surprisingly enjoyed was Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story (2010). I like origin stories. This documentary examined the roots of the board game Monopoly, which I played as a child. I was inspired to research some things they mentioned, like the real-life individual whom Mr. Monopoly was modeled upon. I gained a different perspective on what I thought was just a game.
